A NEW project officer has been appointed to oversee the rejuvenation of a town heritage site.

Mold’s Bailey Hill steering group has announced Jo Lane is the newly appointed Bailey Hill Project Officer, who is based at Mold Town Hall.

Jo has a background in community development and has been successful with setting up and running a variety of different projects in England and Wales.

She will oversee and deliver the Heritage Lottery Fund, Leader and TAIS funded activity plan for the site and will be working closely with Mold Town Council, the Friends of Bailey Hill, Flintshire Council and various third sector organisations.

The Activity and Interpretive Plan includes a variety of projects, events, training and volunteering opportunities to help raise awareness of Bailey Hill and encourage local residents and visitors to Flintshire to visit the park and get involved.

The first volunteering role for the project has gone live this week. The team is looking for research volunteers to find out more about a variety of aspects of Bailey Hill.

This information will be used to tell the story of the park on new interpretation panels, along with audio and video systems in both the new community area at the cottage and around Bailey Hill, as part of the redevelopment on the site.

This opportunity is open to all whether those interested have a passion for history, want to improve their knowledge and skills, or simply want to get involved in something worthwhile.

Eira Hughes, chair of the Friends of Bailey Hill, said: “We were very pleased to welcome Jo to our latest odd job volunteer day at Bailey Hill on Saturday.

"She rolled up her sleeves and helped the friends team of volunteers to plant 500 wild daffodil bulbs, 500 crocus tommasinianus bulbs and 700 pre-1940s heritage daffodils.

"There should be an amazing splash of colour in the park next spring”.

Jo added: “I so enjoyed getting involved with the Friends of Bailey Hill on their volunteer day, it was a great way to meet some of the people who are already working on the project.

"I grew up in Mold and spent many of my childhood days exploring the park and I am excited to help bring the magic of Bailey Hill to life for people far and wide.”

Over the next few months there will be many opportunities for residents to get involved in a variety of projects including poetry, sculpture, performance arts along with plenty of volunteering tasks.
