A MORNING business meeting aimed at encouraging the development of the next generation of managers across Wales is to be held at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Cymru event is part of a national campaign which examines what good management will look like and how it will answer the challenges that the workplaces of the future will present.

Led at Glyndwr by senior academic, business consultant and board member of CMI (Cymru) Dr Jan Green, it is intended to provide interested businesses, organisations and individuals with their opportunity to shape the Institute’s response.

Dr Green – who is Reader in Teaching, Learning and Student Success at Glyndwr - said: “We are currently learning about the challenges posed by the fourth industrial revolution, and the impact which new processes such as artificial intelligence, automation and the Internet of Things will have upon the workplace is potentially transformational.

“That transformation will not only be felt upon the shop floor –as technology disrupts the modern workplace, the way that managers work will have to adapt too.

“As a researcher, I am currently looking at some of the emerging gaps that Wales’ key sectors have in leadership skills, and as a lecturer on Wrexham Glyndwr University’s MBA programme , I hear weekly from students about the issues that companies across our region face – issues which can be compounded by current management practices.

“I will be talking about some of these insights in my presentation during the event – and we will then be asking attendees, through a system of facilitated discussion, what their response would be to these vital issues.

“This is a crucial opportunity for regional businesses to shape the CMI’s response to one of the key questions of our age – and to hear from others how they are responding to these challenges.”

The ‘Management 4.0: The Wales Conversation - Developing the next generation of managers and leaders’ event will be held in Glyndwr University’s 1887 Restaurant on Tuesday, November 12 – with refreshments at 8am and the keynote presentation beginning at 8.30am.
