WITH winter just around the corner, Wrexham residents are being reminded to to get their flu jabs.

A senior councillor at Wrexham Council has urged residents to arrange the jab, which is given on the NHS to: anyone aged 65 and over, pregnant women, children and adults with an underlying health condition (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease)

children and adults with weakened immune systems, children in primary school and frontline health or social care workers.

Anyone in these risk groups is more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as pneumonia so it’s recommended that they have a flu vaccine every year to help protect them from the virus.

Primary school children get theirs in school and the council has said parents should already be aware of this but those in other groups should make enquiries with their GP surgery.

Cllr Joan Lowe, lead member for health and adult social care, said: “Having the flu jab can prevent serious complications for certain people which is why it’s widely available at GP surgeries.

"Please check if you’re eligible and if so check with your GP surgery what arrangements you have to make to get your free NHS flu jab.”
