A FLINTSHIRE businessman is attempting a world record to raise funds for hospice services.

Steve Roberts, from Ewloe will be taking on the physical and mental challenge of a 24-hour duathlon on October 25 to raise valuable funds for St Kentigern hospice.

Steve is a keen athlete and has completed a number of challenges in the past including two Ironman events, multiple marathons, cycling events, various tri Athlons and the national three peaks to name but a few.

The twist for this outdoor lover is that the challenge will be static on a treadmill and bike. For Steve, taking the challenge indoors and onto machine will add a new psychological dimension to this challenge on top of having to continuously be on the move for 24 hours, which he has never done before.

Steve will be attempting to set a new world record for the longest duathlon in 24 Hours. Adding the record attempt to the challenge has added an extra dimension to the challenge for the long standing supporter of St Kentigern.

A duathlon event consists of a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg in a format - similar to triathlons.

The Leader:

Steve said: “The main aim of this tremendous challenge is raise funds and awareness for St Kentigern.

"The hospice team are currently investing to ensure that the facilities at the hospice are updated to meet the increasing needs of the local community. I am very keen to go the extra miles to make a difference for the hospice in my very own way.

"As much as this is a motivation in itself will really push me and hopefully will capture the public’s imagination”.

The challenge will be generously hosted at the Springfield Hotel, Pentre Halkyn from 9am on the Friday (October 25) morning until 9am on Saturday with the backing of Steve’s contacts and fellow colleagues in BNI Deeside and gym equipment sponsored by ServiceSport UK
