A WREXHAM woman is frustrated with the council over a street lights left on all day and night.

Karen Lloyd-Jones, from Ruabon, says she first raised the issue with Wrexham County Borough Council (WCBC) over the lights on A539 back in May.

And nearly 150 days later the street lights remain on for 24 hours hours a day.

Mrs Lloyd-Jones says the the issue started after street lights were installed on the road that leaves the A539 roundabout to the new Aldi store.

She explained: "I began telephoning WCBC on May 16 after I had noticed the light on 24/7 a couple of days earlier and thought someone would be doing something.

"However I was wrong so I telephoned, emailed the county councillor for the area (Joan Lowe) as well as every councillor about a fortnight ago.

"Cllr David Bithell (WCBC leader) replied on September 26 saying that 'officers are chasing up' - but I've heard nothing since."

The Leader:

And Mrs Lloyd-Jones said at a time when climate change is on everyone's lips, energy is simply being wasted.

She said: "WCBC declared a climate change emergency just the other week yet has done nothing to resolve the issue of these street lights just wasting energy away.

"It's simply not good enough for them to have been left on for 24 hours a day for this long."

There are four columns of the street lights in question, each with two burners.

And Mrs Lloyd-Jones has bemoaned the amount of council tax revenue that has been wasted on powering the street lights 24 hours a day.

She said: "I worked at Manweb so I know my electricity - and a standard 100 watt bulb if left running for 10 hours uses up one unit of electricity.

"Assuming each street light is 200 watts, times by seven lamps, 24 hours and 150 days and divided by 100 units (for 10 daylight hours) - I've calculated that approximately 50400 units have been used powering the lights in the day.

"That's roughly what is used to power a small family home for a year. It's such a waste of tax payers money."

WCBC has been approached for a comment.
