A FACILITY for veterans has been relaunched with a new scheme to support charities and community groups.

Tuesday saw the re-opening of the Royal British Legion’s main site in North Wales, based in Wrexham town centre.

Renamed ‘Royal British Legion Connect’ the premises will be a free space available for use by charity and community groups supporting the Armed Forces community from across North Wales.

Officially opened by the mayor of Wrexham the space, in Chester Street, already has a host of events booked in over the coming weeks including coffee mornings and model making clubs, before becoming the North Wales base for the upcoming Poppy Appeal.

Ant Metcalfe, The Royal British Legion’s area manager for Wales, said: “The Legion is a national charity with a local footprint and by working alongside other military groups at the new Royal British Legion Connect we are able to further extend the support offered to the veteran community in North Wales.”

Cllr Walsh described the scheme as "a great innovation".

He told the Leader: "The re-opening went very well and the weather was very nice.

"It had a very good turnout. The centre is very accommodating and they have great staff. "There was also some new artwork by local artist Janine Weston-Jones unveiled, which was great."

Cllr Walsh said he would encourage any veterans in the area to drop into the Royal British Legion Connect.

The Royal British Legion provides vital support for service personnel, veterans and their families who are struggling through hardships, injuries and bereavements.
