A COMMUNITY walk will take place as part of a town festival this month.

On Sunday, October 20, members of the public are being encouranged to join in with the free community walk from Leeswood to Mold to remember the journey people from Leeswood, Treuddyn, Nercwys and the surrounding area took to the courthouse in Mold to support two local miners accused of assault at their trial.

These walks will all come under the Daniel Owen Festival banner – which begins on Saturday, October 19 - and will be led by Ray Roberts and Kevin Matthias, who is the chair of the Festival organisers.

There are two options for the walk, one across fields and styles and the other shorter option from the outskirts of Mold on pavements.

The walk will take place at 1.30pm if using option one, starting at Leeswood Community Centre and finishes at Tyddyn Street United Church in Mold, where there will be refreshments and a display about the Mold Riots. At 5.30pm, a bus will take walkers back to Leeswood.

Children at five local schools are making banners in Theatr Clwyd workshops to bring on the walks.

A spokesman for the event said: “The walk is just under four miles long and consists of pavements and roads, tracks, fields, and woodland passing through kissing-gates and over seven stiles.

“If it has been wet, the fields could be boggy. It is mainly downhill with one or two steep parts. For further details scroll down to the end. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothes and be aware of the hazards. There will be marshals to guide the walkers.”

A second route will operate from 3.30pm, which will be shorter and starts at the car park in front of the Snowdonia Windows showroom on Bromfield Industrial Estate via Gas Lane, Mold Cemetery and Tyddyn Street to Tyddyn Street United Church with banners waving.

Thanks have been extended to Leeswood Community Council, Clwydian Ramblers, Flintshire County Council, Pentre Hobyn Estate, Snowdonia Windows, Tyddyn Street United Church and Mold Town Council by walk organisers.
