A JUNIOR football team are gearing up for a 'trip of a lifetime' following successful fundraises and generous donations from local businesses.

Flint Cub's under 12s will be jetting off to Barcelona in the coming weeks to take part in an international football tournament.

The team will be flying the Welsh flag at prestigious Barcelona Cup - taking place on October 19 and 20.

The tournament sees around 100 teams from 10 countries compete at a top class football centre in Cambrils, near Barcelona. This is as well as a tour of FC Barcelona's world renowned Camp Nou stadium.

They will be facing off against teams from Ireland, Sweden and England in the hope of moving through to the semi finals and final the following day.

Teams from football powerhouse nations such as Brazil, Holland, Germany and France will also be taking part.

To fund the trip, the team have take part in fundraising bag packing at Sainsbury's in Flint and Tesco in Broughton. The team also held a bingo and raffle night at Mold Serviceman's Club.

They have also kindly been donated money from various local businesses, as well as a number of local businesses sponsoring the players individually.

Manager Della Bennett said: "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for the boys.

"They've all worked so hard fundraising for the trip and sorting out sponsorships - and I'd like to thank so much all the businesses who have donated and sponsored players."
