A CHIRK swimming club recently celebrated regional and national success at their presentation evening.

Chirk Dragons, based at Chirk Leisure Centre, held the presentation evening at The Hand Hotel, and celebrated success for students who will be attending regional and national championships in the coming months.

The club has had a record number of swimmers gain qualification for the regional championships in Llandudno, and the Welsh Easter National competition in Swansea.

A total of 25 swimmers qualified for the Welsh Summer Nationals next year, which are also held in Swansea.

Kate Walmsley, spokesman for the club, said: “A big thank you to the coaches led by Welsh National coach Stephen Parker for their commitment and hard work.

“It is difficult to qualify for these regional and national events – swimmers have to be of a high standard to meet the qualifying times, so it’s a big achievement.

“For a small club, the achievements are amazing.

“Well done to all at the Dragons; you do your club proud.”
