A NEW UK pound store from the original founders of Poundworld will open its very first super-store in Wrexham this week.

One Below will open a 14,000 square foot store located on Regent Street on Friday October 11 with confectionery giveaways for its first customers.

It will be the biggest pound store open in Wales, creating 20 new jobs.

The new super-store will have a huge range of items across 10 departments including Halloween and party ware, as well as a range of groceries, home, health and beauty, baby care, toy, DIY, craft and gardening.

The independent retailer has recently opened in towns and cities, including Cardiff’s St David’s Centre, to ‘stampedes’ of shoppers waiting for the doors to open.

The new brand is being independently financed and launched by father and son retail entrepreneurs, Christopher Edwards and Christopher Edwards Sr, who were the original founders of former high street retailer, Poundworld Retail Limited before it was sold to American private equity conglomerate, TPG Capital in 2014.

Many of the former Poundworld staff who lost their jobs when the old Poundworld shop went into administration in 2018 have been given new employment at the new One Below store.

Christopher Edwards managing director of One Below Retail Limited said: “We’re excited to launch our first One Below super store in Wrexham with our biggest range yet. I think customers will be pleased with the number of incredible deals we are able to offer for under £1.

“We have a brilliant range but we’re particularly excited about our massive selection of Halloween and partyware – it’s ideal for anyone planning a party.

“For price-conscious shoppers looking after the pound in their pocket, One Below offers extreme value and a fresh shopping experience.”
