A YOUNG boy has decided to do his bit to save the environment.

Kaiden Evans, 7, decided to pick up litter around Penycae because he did not want it to 'harm the environment or wildlife'.

Grandmother Pam told the Leader: "It came out of the blue. He asked me if I had any tools to pick things up with and a high vis jacket, I have arthritis so I use it to pick things up in the house, and he asked me if we could go litter picking.

"Of course I said yes but I was a bit taken aback, I didn't think a lad of his age would care about that.

"I'm really proud of him."

Pam said her grandson also used to pick up litter from the beach when he was on holiday.

She added: "Local councillor John Phillips got in touch and said they have a group that go out litter picking once a month and he asked if he could join.

"As we were approaching the shop someone gave him a pound to say he was doing a good job.

"It's quite overwhelming, especially when it's your own family.

"We need to save the environment. I'm hoping he will do it on a regular basis."
