A LARGE group of protesters gathered in Wrexham to show their support for the Global Climate Strike day.

The strike took place on Friday outside the Guildhall building in the town centre and was organised by two sets of environmental protesters, ‘Youth Strike 4 Climate’ and ‘Extinction Rebellion Wrexham’.

The protest was held between 12pm and 1pm, and drew in a large crowd of concerned residents within the Wrexham area, which included both adults and children - as well as support from nearby businesses, shops, offices, schools, and anyone else who has been concerned about the Government’s apparent failure to act promptly in addressing the climate emergency.

A member of the Extinction Rebellion group, Jackie Kightly, said: “Me and my daughter, who is a member of the Youth Strike 4 climate group, are both here protesting this very crucial issue within today’s society.

“This issue should be a concern to everyone and anyone.”

One young protester, Jess Williams, who took time out of her studies to attend the event, said: “It’s definitely a worrying issue to everyone but especially to the younger generation.

“It’s going to be us who will have to deal with the consequences.

“More action needs to be taken as urgently as possible.”

Ms Kightly, also added: “On September 25, there is going to be another planned peaceful protest outside the Guildhall building in Wrexham. At this 4pm protest, we hope that those within the local authorities will declare a climate emergency.”
