A MOTHER has spoken of her pride after encouraging her children's abilities rather than disability.

Ten-year-old Eirlys Woods-Hayden, of Mold, lives with cerebral palsy and her mum said this has not stopped her from achieving her dreams of becoming an author.

Caroline Hayden told the Leader: "Her brother also has cerebral palsy and we try to encourage their abilities rather than their disability.

"Not all children can be sporty or the next paralympian. She proved that you can write.

"She has always been an avid reader, she reads and writes and she loves it. She's been reading classics from an early age, anything she can get her hands on, not to mention all of the David Walliams books.

"As a parent, we were trying to encourage something she could do in later life.

"She wanted to write a book and so started it during the summer holidays. She wrote it on her Ipad all by herself."

The book 'The Nightwolf and I' will soon be on sale in paperback version on Amazon and in book stores.

Caroline added: "My daughter is very articulate and was always typing away.

"One day she told us she was finished, we were expecting a few hundred words but ended up reading 22 thousand and it was really good.

"It was that good we decided to self fund publishing and we sent it off and the publisher said it was good, there were hardly any mistakes.

"We didn't tell them she had cerebral palsy, they just thought she was a ten year old who had written a book for teens and young adults and they said they look forward to her making more stories.

"Amazingly, she has achieved this despite her having cerebral palsy. I am very proud of her, she's done really well."
