A HOLYWELL man who “flipped” when his partner said she was seeing someone else has been fined £200.

Jamie Payne flew into a rage with Janet Jones and damaged her Vauxhall car parked in Hafod Y Bryn causing £250 worth of damage.

Payne, 30, of Whitfield Street, Holywell pleaded guilty to criminal damage when he appeared before North East Wales Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said the couple’s five-year relationship had broken up and Mrs Jones was taking the children to the defendant’s grandmother’s home where the dispute flared up.

Mrs Jones was said to have told Payne “You know I am seeing someone else” as she sat in her car outside.

Payne responded by throwing a carton of orange juice through the vehicle’s window.

“He was agitated and punched the window causing it to crack,” said Ms Tench. “He then jumped onto its bonnet causing it to dent and punched the wing mirror causing the glass to fall out.”

When police arrested him Payne admitted “the red mist” had overcome him and that he was not taking the break-up very well.

Melissa Griffiths, defending, said Payne was prescribed anti-depressants and after separating from his partner.

“But since then he has sorted himself out and got work as a ground contractor. He is ashamed that he allowed his temper to get the better of him.”

Deputy District Judge Geraint Jones did not make a compensation order as the court heard he had already paid for the damage to the car, but the defendant was told to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
