A BRAND new, bespoke medal has been unveiled for those who finish the 2020 Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon.

A sneak peak of the new golden medal, which is bigger and bolder than any before it, was released on Tuesday evening.

Any racer who completes the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon, which is set to take place on February 16, will earn their medal as well as some traditional Welsh baked goodies provided by the bakery.

Cash prizes are also available to the fastest competitors with £300, £200 and £100 awards available to those who finish first, second and third respectively in the Open Male and Female category.

Further prizes will also be handed to those who finish first in the Veterans categories and in the male and female team events.

The race will begin at 10.00am on Dunster Road before finishing at The Club House on Oak Road on Wrexham Industrial Estate.

There is an entry fee of either £21 or £23, but free entry is being offered to elite runners who have posted a 1.10 or quicker half (men) or 1.20 half (women), 2.30 or quicker marathon (men) or 2.50 (women) in 2017/2018.

The new medal represents some further good news for Village Bakery – who sponsor the annual race – after company bosses recently confirmed their intentions to rebuild following the devastating fire which tore through the factory last month.

The award-winning Village Bakery was struck by disaster on August 19 when an uncontrollable fire ripped through the factory leaving it in tatters.

But Robin Ward, the managing director of the Village Bakery, has revealed that plans are already underway to rebuild on the original site or on nearby land which the firm already own.
