DOLGELLAU concluded a largely positive North Wales Cricket League Division One campaign with a 36-run home loss to Llanrwst.

The Rwsters’ continued their excellent end to the campaign with another polished display against the one-time title challengers, with a half-century from Huw Williams helping the away side set a target of 180-9 from their allocated 50 overs in the middle.

Trefor Williams also emerged from the contest with a positive score after making 39 and skipper Aron Hughes looked good in the middle before he fell foul o 24.

The home side’s consistent bowling attack saw Greg Smithies, Sam Williams and Jonathan Lloyd all claim two wickets each as a result of their respective efforts.

Smithies continued this impressive form with the bat from the opening position, smashing ten boundaries on his way to a top-score of 89 before he was eventually caught off a Scott Thomas strike after 111 balls.

This performance was not replicated by the rest of the batting attack, with the Rwsters’ securing success as the visitors were all out for 144 in reply.

Thomas was at the very top of his game throughout his ten-over spell, claiming five wickets for the loss of 26 runs to leave Dolgellau finishing the season in a creditable third position.
