A RECENT open doors event at Chirk Castle attracted more than 900 visitors a day to explore the National Trust site.
Visitors were offered the chance to explore unseen parts of the castle which are normally not open to visitors including the historic laundry.
This year’s open castle event took place over three days, as opposed to just the one day.
Visitor experience manager at Chirk Castle, John Hignett, hopes the chance to see the castle for free will bring visitors back in the future.
“Normally people have to pay to come in and visit the castle, or if you’re a member you can enter for free,” he said.
“This year, we hosted the open doors event for three days as opposed to one.
“There were behind the scenes tours and various activities for the children organised by our volunteers.
“We had more than 900 visitors in the castle on each of the days which was very good.
“They are really good numbers for a weekend in September, so we’re hoping people will now want to come back again.”
For those who missed out on the chance to explore the castle’s behind the scenes areas, there will be an event in November offering guided tours which will uncover parts of the building.
