A FLINTSHIRE primary school is celebrating a glowing report following a recent inspection.

Broughton Primary School was visited by education watchdog Estyn in July and received the highest commendation across every area of assessment.

Estyn evaluates a provider’s effectiveness using a four-point judgement scale: Excellent, Good, Adequate and needs improvement and Unsatisfactory and needs improvement.

And the school achieved 'Excellent' across the five remits - namely Standards, Wellbeing, Attitude to learning, Leadership and management, Teaching and learning experiences and Care, support and guidance.

The school has been seen to have showed significant improvement since was last inspected in 2013, where it was graded 'Good' - one rating down from 'Excellent' - across the board.

The report states that the school - which has 550 pupils - 'benefits from strong and innovative leadership and there is a clear vision and strategic direction for developing the school'.

And the 'phenomenal' school is said to deliver 'high quality education to ensure that all pupils and staff are supported and challenged to be the best they can be'.

The school's curriculum is described as 'stimulating' and the report states 'the school benefits from strong and innovative leadership and there is a clear vision and strategic direction for developing the school'.

Melissa Kendrick, headteacher, was understandably delighted with the report.

She said: "Staff and governors are delighted with the outcome of our recent Estyn Inspection.

"Since the last inspection, we have endeavoured to ensure a consistent approach using core strategies in our approach to teaching and learning from Nursery through to Year 6.

"The working relationships we have as a school community, pupils, teachers, support staff, parents and governors has enabled the school to secure the judgments of Excellent in all five areas inspected under Estyn criteria.

"Quite simply, the findings report that Broughton Primary is one of the best schools in Wales.

"I am very proud to be the headteacher of Broughton Primary School."
