A WELLBEING village could be created in Wrexham to allow people to access a range of health services under one roof.

The proposals are designed to enable residents of all ages to get support for both their physical and mental health.

Details of the scheme were revealed by the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW), which said it would be led by Wrexham Council.

The local authority has remained tight-lipped about the plans after senior figures originally denied their existence when questioned last week.

However, a council spokesperson has since clarified that ideas for the project are in the early stages of being developed.

In a statement, they said: “AVOW are supporting the council and health board to develop ideas on how to deliver more integrated services across social care, health and the third sector and the potential for delivering more preventative services.

“This is the beginning of a process to develop and co-produce ideas before they are formed into proposals.”

AVOW said the facility could be used to house services that currently exist across multiple locations in the county.

They include organisations which provide assistance with education, learning disabilities, occupational therapy and physiotherapy,

It could also be home to general practitioners, along with mental health and drugs and alcohol support.

AVOW recently held a consultation on the proposals to gather feedback from third sector organisations on the possible location of the village, as well as which services should be provided.

In an article published on its website, the organisation said: “AVOW have launched a third sector consultation seeking views on a wellbeing village proposed by Wrexham County Borough Council.

“The wellbeing village would consolidate multiple services in one location in Wrexham for members of the public of all ages to access support for their personal, mental, physical and emotional health.

“The aim of the wellbeing village is to support the public at any age and at any stage of their life, to meet their needs and the needs of those they care for.”
