A NEWLY appointed team of prefects have been put in place at Flint High School following a job-like application process.

Their first role as prefects will be to assist the school with their two upcoming open events for year six primary pupils before taking on a variety of other responsibilities as the school year progresses.

Evan Cooper and Hannah Brownbill were selected as the school’s respective head boy and head girl, with Kate John and Jessica Rowley being chosen as deputies.

Dan Evans, head of Year 11 at Flint High School, said: “We were very impressed with the number of students applying for the prefect positions, and the quality of their applications.

“The whole process was conducted in the same way as applying for a job. We evaluated all the application forms and made a shortlist based on each student’s contribution to school and their overall approach to school life.

“This was the key factor as we wanted to ensure they would be strong role models for the younger year groups and provide a student voice for all.

“Prefects play an important role in day to day school life and help to promote and reinforce our school values, setting an important example for all members of our school community.

“They also have a very important role in fostering communication between staff, students, parents and the wider school community.

“We would like to congratulate all the students for achieving their appointment and hope they find their new roles an enjoyable and enriching experience.”

The prefects will play an important leadership role within the school which involves supporting the pastoral team during form periods and assisting in implementing school rules during break times.

As ambassadors for the school, they are also involved with representing the school on visits and at special events.

Their duties are set to begin on Thursday, September 12, when Flint High School holds the first of two open days for year 6 pupils from 6pm to 8pm.

A second open day will then take place on Friday, September 20, from 9.30am to 12pm, with prefects giving guests a tour of the school to showcase their facilities.

As well as members of the senior leadership team, the prefects will also be available to speak to prospective students and their families about the different subjects on offer.
