MORE concerns have been raised regarding potholes in the Wrexham area.

Gwersyllt resident, Rob Evans, 66, who has lived at his current address for the past 35 years, has expressed his frustration towards Wrexham Council, who he believes have somewhat abandoned their responsibility towards maintaining the roads within the area.

He said: “On August 30, I almost collided with an Arriva Bus, as the wheels of my vehicle went into a pothole.

“It caused me to narrowly miss the bus that needless to say was pretty much filled with passengers. Despite slowing down, my wheels still went into the pothole.”

Earlier in the year Mr Evans contacted the Leader to report that he had counted up to 15 potholes within a 200 yard stretch of road, which started at Stansty Gardens towards the Wheatsheaf Inn Pub and then along the Old Mold Road.

The Leader:

Since then, that stretch of road has been resurfaced by the council, but according to Mr Evans, it is not good enough.

He said: “It’s a shame really that this is a frequent occurrence within the area. The council seem to think that it is acceptable to treat motorists like third-class citizens compared to other places, like Gresford. Something needs to be done about this ongoing issue, as Gwersyllt is suffering.”

The Leader:

David Hesketh, highways and transport unit manager at Wrexham Council, said: “We have noted previously that we are maintaining an ageing road network, but do not have the funds to carry out full planned repairs on large parts of that network. All roads are inspected in accordance with our adopted Highway Safety Inspection Policy.

“Defects which meet the defined criteria are recorded and programmed for repair.
