A CONVOY of motorcycles will undertake a 'ride of respect' following the death of a police officer.

PC Andrew Harper, 28, was killed while responding to reports of a burglary in Berkshire on August 15.

Kevin Burke, aged 56 and of Hightown in Wrexham, said he felt compelled to organise the ride out of respect for PC Harper, after a similar event was organised in the south of England.

Mr Burke said: "There's one being held down south and I just thought it would be nice if we held one up here in the north as well.

"The plan is to meet at the new police station in Llay between 10am and 10.30am on Sunday, September 22. "We'll have a safety briefing and then leave at about 11.15am. "We'll be taking the coast road to Colwyn Bay, stopping at Eirias Park and then going to Llandudno.

"I'm hoping to get permission to end the ride and park at the cenotaph."

Mr Burke said at present he is expecting about 30 to 40 bikers to take part, but anyone is welcome to join the ride.

"The more people who come, the better," he said.

"It is a ride of respect. We won't be pushing for people to make donations but any money we do raise on the day, we're going to donate to PC Harper's widow."
