A MAN has admitted harassing his former partner by email.

Stuart John Jones, 45, sent 14 abusive and insulting messages via email to his 26-year-old Welshpool-based ex-partner in February and March of this year.

Jones, of Bryn Road, Aberystwyth, pleaded guilty to harassment without violence when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court.

Stephen Davies, prosecuting, said that there had been issues relating to child access.

He added: “She received 14 emails harassing in nature, and they had an affect on her home life.”

Mr Davies read out a number of emails, one of which said: “You vile ****, you disgusting human”.

Another said: “You vile scum, you absolute **** woman”.

Mr Davies said the messages had caused the victim “a lot of stress and anxiety”.

In an interview with the police, Jones admitted that he was ashamed of what he had said, that he was angry and snapped.

Mike Davies, defending, said Jones suffered with anxiety and stress, adding that he felt that the matter might have been better suited to being dealt with in the family court.

“He pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity,” Mr Davies said.

“These offences were committed seven months ago and there has been no repetition in the intervening period.”

Chair of the magistrates bench, Susan Usmar, gave Jones a 12-month community order and a two-year restraining order.

She said: “It is quite serious harassment without violence. It must have caused distress.”

Jones must not contact his former partner via any means, except through a third party solicitor for child access reasons.

He cannot go within 100 metres of her address in Welshpool or make any reference to her online or on social media.

Jones will also pay an £80 fine, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
