The work allowed the school to join its separate infant and junior buildings onto a single site.

The new build consisted of a flexible learning zone, which is designed to meet the needs of the new Curriculum for Wales and the Digital Competence Framework.

There is a state-of-the-art wireless audio-visual system, which will allow teachers and pupils to collaborate on multiple devices and platforms on any screen across the school.

Half of the work has been funded by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools fund, with the rest of the costs being met by Wrexham Council.

Cllr Phil Wynn, lead member for education, said: “I’m very pleased that work at Gwersyllt CP has completed before the start of the new term, and would like to thank Read Construction for their efforts in ensuring that children returned to a new and improved site after the summer holidays.

The Leader:

“I’d also like to thank officers and all staff at the school for their work in co-ordinating the project and ensuring it was the success it was, and I’d also like to thank parents and pupils for their co-operation and support during the work.”

Alex Read, director at Read Construction, said: “We are delighted to hand over the new school facilities ready for the start of the new term.

“We are confident that the pupils and staff will enjoy their new 21st Century learning environment, which has been delivered through the 21st Century Schools programme.”
