A TOWN council will be opening its doors to allow members of the public to step back in time.

On October 4 and 5, Mold Town Council will be opening the doors of Mold Town Hall to show a large display of photographs and memorabillia showing the hostory of the town over the last 150 years.

The historic council chamber will be available for the public to view as doors open from 10am to 6.30pm on Friday and 10am to 1pm on the Saturday.

Exhibits this year will include Mold through the centuries, North Wales Mining, 100 years of Ruthin to Mold Bus Service in July 1919 and Friends of Bailey Hill, where people can learn about the future plans for the birthplace site of the town.

Local historian and author David Rowe will also be on hand to give short talks.

On October 4 at 11am there will be a talk on the abbreviated history of Mold Riots, the story of colliery dispute at Leeswood Green leading to the death of four people on Mold's streets.

At 2pm will be a talk on Rhual - the American Link. The American War of Independence, saw the Philips family including Mary, the first love of George Washington, escaping to Britain. Her nephew, Frederick, marries into the family of Rhual.

The final talk will be held at 5.30pm with a repeat session on the history of the Mold riots.

Councillor Tim Maunders, Mayor of Mold, said: "I am delighted that David has once again agreed to volunteer his time and extensive knowledge of the town, to provide local residents and those from further afield an opportunity to extend their knowledge of the history of our great little town. I am sure the event will once again prove very popular."

On October 5, a talk at 10.30am will be on the history of the Mold Riots and at 11.30am Rual - the American Link.

All talks are free of charge, but seating will be limited due to space in the Chamber, so attendees are being asked to arrive in plenty of time for what promises to be a great insight into Mold’s history.
