KINMEL Bay’s JD Welsh Cup journey abruptly ended in the first qualifying round after a shock 5-3 defeat at Llanfairfechan Town.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side lost out to their Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division opponents after a pulsating tie, with the hosts getting themselves ahead on 13 minutes when Tom Croton finished well following a period of sustained pressure.

Things got even better for Town on the half hour mark when Harry Croton doubled their advantage, but Bay responded well to their latest setback and reduced the arrears through prolific striker Matty Griffiths with 35 on the clock.

This strong period for the away side brought another reward a minute before the break when Szbor Gyorey hit the target to level matters, but the home side came out with a renewed sense of purpose following the interval and seized the initiative once again when Iwan Jones converted a chance on 47 minutes.

Goals from Tom Croton – his second of the afternoon – and Ryan Lewis gave the home side a commanding cushion heading into the closing stages, and despite Griffiths securing his brace late on it was not enough to prevent Bay exiting the competition at the first hurdle.

Next up for the fourth tier side is a home clash with Pentraeth on Saturday, with the club currently occupying eight place in the Division Two standings after winning three of their opening six games.
