A MOTHER and son duo took on a gruelling challenge to raise funds for charity.

Michelle Jones and her 12-year-old son Joe, of Flint Mountain, took part in the 26.5 mile charity hike in a bid to raise funds for the Blood Bike Wales charity.

The event was organised by Milli Shutler who runs the Fitcell gym in Mold and members of the fitness centre worked together to raise funds for the good cause.

Michelle told the Leader: "We started at the gym and went up to Loggerheads, up Moel Famau and Moel Arthur and through to Llangollen.

"I'm a member of the gym and they do similar things every year for different causes, obviously this year was for Blood Bikes Wales.

"I signed up and me and my son like walking anyway so he said he would like to come and do it with me

"I didn't think he would do it but he kept saying he was okay to carry on and next minute we completed it."

The team started at 6.45am and pushed their way through fields, forests and hills before finally finishing at 7.30pm.

Michelle added: "It's a fantastic achievement and the furthest I've ever walked, We didn't expect to complete the whole thing.

"We had a halfway point in mind but we just kept going and surprised everyone, especially since Joe has just turned 12.

"I'm so proud of Joe I could burst."
