RESIDENTS of an extra care facility came together to purchase life-saving equipment.

Tenants of Llys Eleanor, an independent extra care facility in Shotton, used the funds they have been raising all year round, to purchase a defibrillator at the home.

Deborah Johnson, activities co-ordinator, said: "They raise funds all year round from raffles and things like that and it gets them out and about.

"I put the idea of a defibrillator to them because they had done so well and I asked them if they would like to purchase one for themselves. They all jumped on board with the idea.

"I'm so proud of them and they should be proud of themselves."

The elderly residents took part in a demonstration session with Tomos Hughes so they felt confident to use the equipment if needed.

Deborah added: "It's nice to see them asking questions because it's giving them that confidence.

"To be the age they are and thinking of other people, it shows they care.

"Our past tennants, who unfortunately are no longer with us, supported everything we do as well so it's nice not to forget them.

"We are like a big family."
