A MULTI award winning choir is to hold a celebration concert at a Wrexham theatre.

The Leader reported recently how John’s Boys Male Chorus from Rhos were named Choir of the World in a thrilling final at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

Now, the choir is to hold a celebration concert at the Stiwt in Rhos on Saturday, October 12, from 7pm.

The choir was formed in early 2016 to sing in a ‘Noson Lawen’ to celebrate the lives of two local choral conductors, the late John Glyn Williams and the late John Tudor Davies, both of whom were from the village of Rhos.

Both men were heavily involved with the male voice scene in Wales and beyond.

Since performing in the Noson Lawen the choir has gone from strength to strength, attracting new members and gaining fine praise from several renowned choral adjudicators.

Within months of being formed, the choir competed in the ‘National Choir of the Year’ selection process, where their performance gained a place in the ‘Adult Choir of the Year’ competition, held in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

They have performed in many prestigious venues including the Royal Northern College of Music, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Millennium Centre Cardiff and the Millennium Stadium where they sang the anthems for the Wales V New Zealand Rugby International.

The choir has also appeared on various television and radio programmes.

In 2019 John’s Boys Male Chorus won its first competition, becoming the winners of Cor Cymru.

In early July the choir not only won the Male Voice competition in Llangollen but also became only the third Welsh choir and first Welsh Male Voice choir in history to win the prestigious title of Cor Y Byd (Choir of the World).

Just a few months later the choir was successful again, this time at the National Eisteddfod winning the Male Voice competition.

Tickets for the celebration concert on October 12 cost £15 (full) or £12 (concession) and can be bought via the Stiwt website www.stiwt.com
