A MAN caught speeding at Loggerheads was found to be over the limit for drug driving.

Mark Lloyd, 32, of Bryn Awelon, Cyffylliog, near Ruthin pleaded guilty to having benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, over the specified limit when he appeared before North East Wales Magistrates’ Court.

He also admitted exceeding the 60mph speed limit on a single carriageway with both offences committed on April 19 this year.

Prosecutor Justin Espie said that police officers undertaking speed checks on the A494 caught Lloyd travelling at 72mph.

When he was stopped he told them he had consumed cannabis and cocaine the previous evening.

A blood test showed a level of 356 for benzoylecgonine; the legal limit is 50.

Victoria Evans, defending, said: “He took the drugs 18 hours earlier and thought he was okay to drive.”

Magistrates banned Lloyd from driving for 12 months and fined him a total of £160. He also has to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
