A FLINTSHIRE town's high street has been shortlisted for a top award.

Mold High Street is a finalist in the Great British High Street Awards rising star category.

Organisers of the awards are inviting the public to cast their votes for their favourite high streets.

Describing Mold's shortlisting, a spokesman for the awards said"With award winning restaurants and a year-round calendar of events, Mold High Street is committed to becoming the ideal place for shopping, tourism, living and working.

"This Welsh town has developed the Mold Digital Trail App and uses social media as a key tool when engaging with the community.

"The town has planted 75 new trees in public spaces and hosts an annual Spring Clean event where over 720 people volunteered and over 300 bags of rubbish were collected.

"The Mayor’s ‘Save a Life’ campaign has placed 25 defibrillators around the town and has encouraged over 1,500 people to learn key life saving techniques.

"They have also installed welcome gateway signage on all routes into the town and there are tourist information points within the town itself."

Other Welsh high streets shortlisted in the category include Palace Street in Caernarfon, Camarthen Town, Llanelli, Triangle House in Welshpool, Caldicot Town Centre and High Street in Pembroke.

All shortlisted high streets will be visited by the Great British High Street Judges who will assess them against their original entry.

This accounts for 80 per cent of the overall score with the final 20 per cent being determined by public voting on the website.

All of the shortlisted finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony in London in November where the winners will be announced, celebrating the high streets that are succeeding and influencing change.
