THE pilot meeting for a new group supporting veterans and emergency service workers was a big success, organisers have said.

Held at the Royal British legion offices in Wrexham town centre at the end of July, the meeting was open to ex-Armed Forces personnel, family members, reservists and members of the emergency services.

It offered its attendees a chance to have a chat and a hot drink.

Organiser Graham Jones, chairman of Royal Marine Association for North Wales and project officer for North Wales armed forces charity Woody's Lodge, told the Leader beforehand he hoped it would be a chance to "develop a strong veteran community across the region."

Following the meeting, he said: "The pilot drop in at the Royal British Legion office in Wrexham was a success with a number of Veterans in attendance.

"These sessions will now be a regular occurrence and will be held the first Thursday and third Tuesday of the month commencing on Thursday, September 5, 6.30pm to 9pm.

"We will be running photography workshops and mindfulness classes along with the occasional guest speaker on Veterans' welfare subjects.

"The sessions are to include families of veterans, reservists and emergency personnel."
