A COUNTRY show has been cancelled due to forecasted strong winds of up to 50mph.

The Llanarmon Yn Ial Show, which attracts 2,000 residents and visitors to the village situated in the Alyn Valley, near Ruthin, has been called off due to an adverse weather forecast.

Organisers were set to stage the traditional event which includes produce competitions, a vintage vehicle exhibition, entertainment tents and craft stalls, on Saturday August 10.

The Sheepdog Trial will still go ahead, however, the show committee said.

In a Facebook post on the Llanarmon Yn Ial Show page, a committee spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, the weather this weekend has been forecast as a storm with winds expected of up to 50mph.

"For safety reasons, the decision has been made to cancel the main show events. This was a difficult decision to make but the tents and stalls would not survive such weather!"

The village show, established more than 75 years ago, is attended by residents, day visitors and holidaymakers.

The cancellation comes amid a difficult summer for country shows in Denbighshire as many horse events were scrapped following an outbreak of equine flu in the county.

The Llanarmon Yn Ial event is set to return on August 8.

The show spokesperson added: "We are sorry to disappoint and hope to see you all again next year."
