HUNDREDS of pounds has been donated to those who dedicate their time to helping others.

The Freedom Riders motor cycle club, based in Deeside, hosted a charity night in Hendey's, also known as the Castle Brook Road, Shotton - in which they raised funds for the friends of Aston Community Hospital.

The group, alongside the customers of Hendey's pub, raised £500 for the Deeside Hospital League of Friends which will go towards helping the local people in hospital.

Cllr Robert Dowie, of Shotton town council, said: "Deeside Community Hospital League of Friends is a small group of volunteers supporting patients and staff.

"The main work is fundraising to help provide extra equipment, for example a ultra sound scanner. This important piece of equipment make it possible to treat patients locally.

"They help to mitigate the falling central government cash by fundraising.

"The money will be used to carry on the excellent work by the League of Friends.

"The charity needs £45,000 every year, given the pressure to reduce costs this money will go a long way to help out. The donation was very well received."
