CONCERNS have been raised for a number of horses in a field in Flintshire.

The five horses, situated in a field in Mold, have been left neglected, a member of the public told the Leader.

They said: "I've owned horses before and I can see these horses are in really bad way. But you don't have to be an expert on horses to know they're not healthy, they are extremely thin.

"It's been reported to the RSPCA several times but nothing has been done. Every now and then some hay is put down for them but something needs to be done if these horses are to survive.

"There's very little grass for them to eat, most of the area is mud. One of the horses is cut off from the rest of the group and is particularly bad, it neighs at you if you walk past as it wants to be fed."

The Leader:

Ribs are visible on at least two of the animals. Earlier this year, the Leader reported on a neglected horse in the Queensferry area which was eventually rescued an animal charity.

An RSPCA Cymru spokesperson said: "We are aware of concerns about equine welfare in the Mold area. We continue to monitor the situation in the area to ensure welfare standards are being met.

"As ever, people can always report further concerns to our 24-hour emergency line on 0300 1234 999."
