A RANGE of fun activities are on offer for children in Saltney during the summer holidays.

The summer play activities are being held at Saltney Youth Club in Sandy Lane from 10am to 12noon, Monday to Friday until August 16.

Open to children aged five to 11, the scheme is funded by Saltney Town Council and delivered by Flintshire Integrated Youth Provision, with support from 22 young volunteers.

As well as a variety of arts and crafts activities, children can get involved in competitions, football, pool and more.

Julie Pugh, community youth worker for Flintshire Integrated Youth Provision, said: "We have had between 78 and 89 children a day. It's a very popular playscheme which has been running for 28 years.

"Saltney Town Council has always funded it for the community. "There are lots of things going on and it is a safe environment because it is an indoor scheme. "It's also very good for the volunteers because they can learn skills that they can transfer into their working lives."

Alex Wylie, playscheme supervisor, said: "It's a wonderful scheme which is very good for the community."

Rachel Davies, 35, who took her children Morgan and Isla down to the scheme, said: "It's really good - yesterday was the first time coming down and the volunteers get everyone involved. "My children have really enjoyed it."
