YOUNG shoppers will be transported to the plains of Africa in a special series of free summer holiday activities at Wrexham’s Eagles Meadow shopping centre.

And one lucky family will be roaring with delight in our fantastic competition to mark the start of the events which have been launched to coincide with the release of Disney’s remake of The Lion King.

Eagles Meadow has teamed up with the Leader to offer one lucky family the chance to see the computer-animated blockbuster for free at the shopping centre’s Odeon cinema after the film hit the screens there on Friday, July 19.

The winning family, who will get two adult and two children’s cinema tickets, will also receive:

  • 1 x Family Tenpin session
  • 1 x £50 voucher for Pizza Express
  • 1 x £25 voucher for Next
  • 1 x £25 voucher for M&S

The ‘Passport To Africa’ free summer activities will be held every Thursday and Friday for four weeks, starting on Thursday July 25, from 11 am to 4 pm.

High energy activities will include African dance and drumming workshops, craft sessions and a special meet and greet with real-life bugs from the continent. The events will culminate on Friday August 16 with an animal parade through the shopping centre following an animal mask craft workshop.

All those visiting will get a passport which includes games, exclusive retailer offers and information on how you could win a family trip to see The Lion King musical in London.

The events will also raise money for Dynamic, a Wrexham-based centre for children and young people with disabilities.

Stuart Bellis, Eagles Meadow Centre Operations Manager, said: “Eagles Meadow is set to be transformed into an African adventure land for our young shoppers and their families who I know will be looking for activities to keep their little ones amused during the long summer break.

“What’s also great is that visitors will be able to help us raise money for a great cause like Dynamic at the same time.”

Dynamic staff and volunteers will be on hand at the events to collect donations and raise awareness about their cause which was set up in 1995 and has its centre on the corner of Salisbury Road in Hightown.

The charity, which is partially funded by Wrexham Council but still needs to raise around £100,000 a year to stay open, provides out of school activities and training for children and young people with disabilities, aged between eight and 19.

It currently supports more than 100 young people by holding six weekly after school groups, a Saturday group, activities during school holidays and a major summer programme to support families during the long school break.
