A SCHOOL is celebrating after four pupils achieved medals in a world dance competition.

Evie Carr, Isla Hunter, Liv Millington and Cherish Edwards from St Brigid’s School in Denbigh could be names to remember after they performed to high marks at the Dance World Cup. The annual international dance competition is attended by 12,000 young people aged four to 25 from independent dancing schools.

The youth competition is held in a different country annually, this year in Portugal, with genres including classical ballet, modern, tap, song and dance, street and national.

Evie, year six, achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the solo show dance. She was then joined by Isla, year five, and Cherish, year eight, all of whom attend The North Wales School of Dancing, to take part in the large group song and dance performance which was awarded 6th place.

Meanwhile Liv Millington, who attends Elsberdance in Buckley, was awarded two silvers for her part in the song and dance trio and the song and dance group competitions, as well as a bronze in the tap trio.

A spokesperson for St Brigid’s School said: “The girls did St Brigid’s and their country proud!”

But Evie and Liv achieved further success after gaining summer school scholarships at the prestigious Bird College in London. The independent college of dance, theatre and music performance has alumni including Spice Girl Melanie C and TV star Lara Pulver.
