SPEEDING checks in a Wrexham village are not enough to stop motorists driving too fast, say councillors in a Wrexham village.

At a meeting of Llay Community Council on Wednesday, Cllr Rob Walsh said it would be good for the village to have signs warning drivers about their speed.

Cllr Walsh said: "If you look at other villages like Gwersyllt and Overton, they've got the speeding signs and we looked into getting some in Llay about six months ago.

"I think we need to look again into how much they would cost as they would give the village a bit of lift, especially after the recent incident on First Avenue."

The incident referred to resulted in a vehicle going through the Rockery railings, and the road was highlighted as "hot spot" for speeding in the village. Cllr John O'Keefe said: "The problem with First Avenue is that as you're go down it, everyone is parked on the right hand side of the road. So what people do is speed up to try and get passed all the parked cars as quickly as possible.

"The pavement is wider than the road in parts and it's a bad situation to be honest."
