OUR high streets are full of hidden gems and through July, the Leader is putting them in the spotlight, as we celebrate Independent Retailer Month.

Meet today's trader...

Name: Sarah Kennedy-Ratcliffe

Business: The Coffee Bean

Location: The Mews, Holywell

Telephone / website: 07739 062026 / www.sarahscoffee.com

Opening hours: 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday

When did you open and why?

We opened last April. Sarah's Coffee had been online for six months but I was keen to have a base in Holywell, where I live.

Why did you open in this location?

I fell in love with my little shop in the mews because of its period fire places and the grapevine by the door. It has a lovely feel about it, which everyone comments on when they come in.

Tell us about your business/what do you sell?

I sell coffee beans as the name suggests and The Coffee Bean is also a space for art exhibitions which change every month, host a Chatty Café every Wednesday, craft groups - including a new scrapbooking group from September. It is a lovely comfy space available for meetings and other community clubs and groups to use.

What's your most memorable/proudest moment in business?

My proudest moment in business so far was being chosen as a Small Business Sunday winner by Theo Paphitis last September. I collected my certificate earlier this year, and it was fabulous to receive this after being in business for only a relatively short period of time.

Despite not being open long, there has been lots of laughter and tears in The Coffee Bean, I don't have customers, they all become friends.
