WREXHAM Council has announced the return of a popular event.

Play Day returns on Wednesday, August 7, where once again the town centre will be handed over to younger residents to celebrate their right to play.

Regulars to Play Day will know that it’s the day when the town centre is transformed into a giant play area and parents and carers watch on while everyone gets very wet, very messy and has a great time.

There will be all the usual activities including den building, a big maze, the popular water slide, the giant sand pit and plenty for even the very youngest of children.

About 4,000 visited last year and staff are gearing up for even more this year.

All you need to bring with you is a playful mood and of course some clothes you don’t mind getting wet and messy.

Wrexham Council said: “We’d also encourage you to bring a picnic and stay for the day or make the most of what’s available in the town centre.

“Playday is for people of all ages including babies and toddlers, older children, teenagers, parents, professionals and grandparents, all are invited to join in this free and playful event.

“Organisations involved in children’s play and playwork from across Wrexham will be coming together to provide a wide range of playful opportunities, including favourites like the giant sandpit, mass water fight, and junk play.

“The aim of this event is to highlight children’s right to play, encouraging people to recognise the value of playing to children, their families and their local communities.

“In doing this Wrexham’s Playday event is part of the local authority’s continued commitment to try to ensure all children across the county borough have enough time, space and permission to play.

Play Day starts at 12 noon and finishes at 4pm, it is free and takes place mainly Queens Square and Llwyn Isaf.
