SCHOOL pupils have been recognised for their creativity in dealing with real-life issues.

Almost 20 students from Connah's Quay High School were tasked to give a three-minute speech on a topic of their choice.

A spokesman for the school said: "They dealt with controversial and adult themes such as knife crime, the impact of social media and politics with clear knowledge, sensitivity and understanding.

"They spoke with eloquence and huge levels of confidence that defied their age.

"As a school we could not be prouder of each and every one of them and look forward to doing it all again next year."

The winner for Year 7 was Maksymilian Kulwikowski and runner up Lillian Tolfrey.

Nia Griffiths and Rhys Mollison White took first and second place for the Year 8 group and Grace Mead and Cain Griffiths took first and second place for Year 9.

The school spokesman added: "The evening was sponsored by Keir who provided £25 Amazon gift vouchers for the winners, in each year group, and a £15 voucher for the runners up.

The Year 10 winner was Joel Dale, with Niamh Heffernan taking second place.
