Meet the latest trader in the spotlight, as the Leader continues to celebrate Independent Retailer Month throughout July...

Owner: Amanda Smith

Business: Amandas Fabrics

Location: 1a Earl Road, Mold

Telephone: 07849 962312

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10am-4pm

When did you open and why?

I opened on Chester Street in 2014 as there was a gap in the market in this area for dress/craft fabrics. I moved on to Earl road two years ago.

I only came across the shop being empty by chance and after a week of viewing I had the key!

The Leader:

Why did you open in this location?

I started my business doing craft fairs and then markets, Oswestry/Llangollen/Ruthin. I then realised a shop was the way forward and thought Mold was ideal.

Tell us about your business/what do you sell?

I sell dress fabrics but mainly quilting and craft cottons, all 100 per cent cottons. I do a good range of haberdashery, including buttons, ribbons, threads. Also Anchor embroidery silks.

What's your most memorable/proudest moment in business?

The proudest moment has got to be just recently as I have become an official Liberty of London fabric stockist.

There are only 109 in the country, me being the 109th, this is a great achievement for my business and for Mold.

Have you had any strange requests/quirky suggestions or stories from customers?

I have been asked to sew a man's button on his jeans, while he was still wearing them!
