It's not every day you see beach props and limbo dancing in a Hightown street.

But the residents of Hill Court donned their grass skirts and garlands for a Hawaiian community street party

In addition to three bouncy castles, the 70 people attending on Saturday - mostly residents of Hill Court - were treated to ten pin bowling, giant Jenga, a photo booth, limbo dancing and music.

The Hill Court Ladies Group, who organised the event, organise many such parties throughout the year including summer, Halloween and Christmas.

Leanne Chitty, a 35-year-old member of the organising group said she was very pleased with the way the day turned out.

Miss Chitty, who has an eight-year-old son named Ethan, said: "It was a nice dry day and we did a big barbecue.

"We had lots of beach props around because it had a Hawaiian theme.

"The kids love it, they really enjoy getting together and that's what these parties are all about - getting people together and community spirit.

"We get all the neighbours joining in and donating food and it's just a great day. "My son loves it here. We have been here for six years and it was the best move we ever made because the people are great - we help each other out and we're always doing things for the kids."

The event was funded by the residents and sponsored by CE Technical Solutions, as well as Platinum Plumbing.

Hill Court Ladies Group - whose members include Emma Evans, Leanne Chitty, Sharon Menzies, Tracey Coppack, Amanda Price - is to host one more party before the end of the summer.

Emma Evans added: "I love living in Hill Court and it's fantastic how the whole community joins in with events like this, to bring us all together.

"The kids have lots of fun and the adults do as well, community spirit at its best. With help from local business men and our neighbours we can continue to bring us together with future events."
