COMMUNITY councillors have praised residents for their response to a recent week-long litter pick.

Members of Caia Park Community Council received an update on the recent litter pick that was run in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy and Wrexham Council's estate office to educate people locally about the value of keeping the community clean.

Council clerk Michael Morris told councillors at their monthly meeting that the initiative was a ‘big success’ and estimated that hundreds of large binbags were filled by the teams of litter pickers with rubbish that would otherwise be left on the streets.

The week of action was planned, tackling a ward a day, to get to grips with the problem that litter was posing to certain areas.

The wards were tackled in the following order; Whitegate (Monday, July 1), Smithfield (Tuesday, July 2), Wynnstay (Wednesday, July 3), Queensway (Thursday, July 4) and Cartrefle (Friday, July 5).

Cllr Adrienne Jeorett said: “It is amazing what we have done as a community however, this was just the litter that we could reach. There were lots of spots around where we started to work that we physically could not reach. Having people take ownership of their area made that much more of a difference.”
