A town came together to witness their new mayor take a pledge to do her best for the people she represents.

Cllr Norma Davies, the new mayor of Flint, was the centre of attention at a civic service and parade through the town’s high street.

The Coleshill councillor was joined by her chosen deputy mayor for this year, Trelawny councillor Mel Buckley, as well as other town mayors and chairs to celebrate the occasion.

The parade moved from outside the Town Hall, off Market Square, and came along Church Street before stopping at St Mary’s Church for the service led by Rev Brian Harvey.

Also in attendance for the ceremony was Delyn AM Hannah Blythyn, who wished Norma well in her year as town mayor.

She said: “Today was wonderful and thankfully the rain held off to allow the parade through to the beautiful St Mary’s Church. It was also very nice to see the community come out and show their support for their local mayor.”

After the service, the parade walked back to the town hall for sandwiches, cake and tea. The mayor also offered members of the public a short tour around the town council chamber including the mayor’s parlour.

Reflecting on the day, Cllr Davies said: “It was a wonderful afternoon and I’m so pleased at the turn out. I wanted the day to be about the community as it all ties in with the Flint Festival that has had some fabulous events to attend. The service was lovely, and I’d like to give a big thank you to everyone who helped, participated and came along.”

The Civic Sunday was planned as the final event to the jam-packed Flint Festival, which ran from July 6 to July 14.
