A MAN from Garden City lobbed a brick through a neighbour’s window mistakenly believing she had thrown it through his, a court heard.

Tomas Hughes’ faulty thinking landed him at North East Wales Magistrates’ Court where he admitted a charge of criminal damage.

He was ordered to pay £300 compensation to Kayleigh Jones whose lounge window he smashed at her Kingsley Road home, showering her son’s toy box in glass shards.

Magistrates’ Chairman Deborah McKinnel said Hughes he would be subject to a 12-month conditional discharge and told him: “This was absolutely disgraceful behaviour.”

Prosecutor Helen Tench said that Hughes was at his home in Riverside Park in Garden City when his window was hit by a brick.

“He thought it had been done by the occupants in Kingsley Road, so he went around there and threw the same brick through the window.

“But he was spotted by the complainant and he was captured on CCTV images.”

Hughes initially denied his actions, but he made a frank admission in his police interview.

North East Wales Magistrates’ Court heard in a statement from Ms Jones that the broken glass had fallen into her son’s toy box, although he fortunately was not in the room at the time.

She said that she feared Hughes might return to her property.

Hughes was not represented in court and had nothing to say about his offence.

The 38-year-old, of Riverside Park, Garden City pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

He was also told to pay courts costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
