RESIDENTS were left looking at "a complete eyesore" after a caravan was abandoned in Drury.

Buckley Councillors Mike Peers and Dennis Hutchinson were alerted to the situation in Meadow Avenue last week.

Cllr Peers explained: "Working with Cllr Dennis Hutchinson, who had already been notified by another resident, the council was contacted to request removal of the abandoned caravan.

"The front and rear windows are missing. It’s a complete eyesore and unpleasant for the occupiers of the property who look onto the caravan and for those living in Meadow Avenue.

"It’s a mystery to us why the area was selected and the caravan abandoned randomly, in a residential street.

"Flintshire County Council responded promptly to our concerns and our request for its removal and a notice has now been attached to the caravan by the county council.

"But a period of seven days have to elapse before it can be disposed of under the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978.

"We trust it will be removed promptly once the period of notice expires."

Cllr Hutchinson told the Leader: "It is not roadworthy and should not be there.

“People are very frustrated with it. It's an ugly sight and people can do without that kind of thing outside their home.

"It's a very nice street and people are law-abiding. I hope sincerely that it is removed within the seven days otherwise action will have to be taken.

"I've never come across anything like that in that area in 30 years of being a town and county councillor.

"Fly-tipping is on the increase across the county and it can be difficult to deal with, but this is the most unusual one I have ever seen."

Flintshire Council has been approached for a comment.
