HUNDREDS of people turned up to enjoy a town's annual summer festival.

Connah's Quay welcomed residents and visitors to the annual festival at Wepre Park, with the parade kick-starting events, followed by activities ranging from an assault course, Nerf gun competitions, a fun bus, Zorb football and a dog show.

Councillor Gill Faulkner said: "It was a huge success, plenty of entertainment for all ages. The dog show had lots of entrances. Everyone I spoke to said it was great to see everyone having fun."

The festival has been running for 15 years and this year saw a change of events. Instead of live band performances, the festival included an 'events area' where different local groups could showcase their talents such as zumba and martial arts.

Lisa Fearn, town centre manager, said: "I was absolutely delighted with the vast number of attendees and the many positive comments received regarding Connah's Quay Annual Festival on Sunday. I do believe it was the most successful festival we have held in all the years it has been running.

"Not only does it demonstrate partnership working at its best, with so many different organisations helping with the planing over the past 12 months, but how the Connah's Quay community come together and create an amazing atmosphere and had fun.

"The parade was a wonderful display of all the hard work created by the many local groups, which was a major part during the build up to ensure the day was a great achievement.

"Bring on 2020 - we have our work cut out - to make even better."

The park was filled with activities as well as over 30 stalls from local businesses and charities showcasing what they have to offer.

The council also wanted to encourage people to leave their cars at home and enjoy the day, by providing a free park and ride service from the Civic Hall to Wepre Park.

Steven Goodrum, clerk of Connah's Quay Town Council, added: "Our Annual Festival is now in its 15th year and this year was, we think, one of the best yet.

"We were a little worried for this one as we changed things a bit, trying an ‘events arena’ instead of live bands – but we needn’t have been.

"There was a great turnout for the parade and hundreds joined us throughout the day to make it a success. We’d like to thank everyone who helps organise the event but especially Radio Deeside, Flintshire County Council – Streetscene and Rangers, North Wales Police, Friends of Wepre Park for their support on the day.

"Our thoughts now turn to planning for 2020 – so watch this space."
