LUMBERJACKS and 80-foot-pole climbers are set to head to Caerwys this month to celebrate all things wood.

The 19th annual WoodFest Country Show will return on July 12-14 when thousands of visitors will witness hundreds of live exhibitions of wood skills, ranging from the intricate to the extreme.

The 30-acre festival site will hum and buzz for three days as chainsaw carving and extreme mountain biking take centre stage.

World-leading axemen will battle it out in woodchopping, crosscut sawing, tree climbing and chainsaw skills in the traditional logging competition format originating in the United States.

Meanwhile the AUS Championships Pole Climbing will tower over thousands of visitors in attendance.

The event, which sees contestants scale 80-foot poles that weigh more than six tonnes each, is considered the festival’s jewel attraction.

There will also be horse logging - which uses the much-loved animal to carry up to 10 tonnes of timber each day - as well as ferret racing, a sheep show, dog show, wildlife and conservation talks and upcycling workshops.

On the Saturday, guitars will be shredded as WoodFest Rocks turns the sound up a few notches, with headline act The Montagues.

The alt-rock/indie four piece from North Wales are NME nominated for their blend punchy drum and bass driven riffs with stadium sized choruses, likened to Catfish and The Bottlemen and Stereophonics.

The headliner will be joined by support acts including Busk til Dawn and Pete Kenway.

For visitors wanting to get to calmer quarters, there will be about 200 stalls showcasing arts and crafts, jewellery, artwork, fair trade and ethical crafts, country clothing, furnishings and smaller wooden gifts, as well as cosmetics and aromatherapy products.

There will also be culinary activities at the WoodFest Food Hall, including local cheeses, breads, meat and chutneys, as well as breweries and wines.

The adventurous hearted who want to continue into the night can get weekend camping tickets to stay at the dedicated seven-acre site, which includes shower blocks and toilets. Canine friends are welcome too.

The site is just off the A55 at Junction 31.

A wide range of tickets available for Woodfest Country Show cost from £6 to £65. For more information and to book, visit www.woodfestcountryshow.co.uk
